Death & Dying

Book VII, 405

by Philippus of Thessalonica fl. 1st century AD

Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. II, 1917)

Death & Dying

Avoid, O stranger, this terrible tomb of Hipponax, which hails forth verses, Hipponax whose very ashes ery in iambics his hatred of Bupalus, lest thou wake the sleeping wasp, who not even in Hades has lulled his spite to rest, but in a halting measure launcheth straight shafts of song.
