Death & Dying

Toll, Toll the Bell

by Sir Walter Scott 1771–1832

From Songs from the Waverley Novels (Poetical Works, Oxford 1904)

Death & Dying

TOLL, toll the bell !
Greatness is o'er;
The heart has broke,
To ache no more ;
An unsubstantial pageant all --
Drop o'er the scene the funeral pall.
