Fragment CIII: Ye twins of Jove! an undivided twain
Translated by John Hookham Frere (1842; Bohn 1856) · From Fragments of Theognis (Frere, 1842)
Social Commentaries
Ye twins of Jove! an undivided twain,
That on Eurotas’ shore and happy plain
In endless harmony preside and reign!
Punish our guilt! If ever by design
I wrong my friend, let all the loss be mine;
But if the fault is his, double the fine!
