Maxims of Theognis: Never, Cyrnus, trustingly consult with

by Theognis of Megara fl. 6th century BC

Translated by Rev. J. Banks (Bohn, 1856) · From Hesiod, Callimachus and Theognis (Bohn, 1856)

Living

Never, Cyrnus, trustingly consult with a mean man, when you may wish to accomplish a serious matter: but go to a man-of-worth, and take advice, after you have made great efforts, and accomplished, Cyrnus, a long journey afoot.

This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
