Maxims of Theognis: You have not escaped-my-notice as

by Theognis of Megara fl. 6th century BC

Translated by Rev. J. Banks (Bohn, 1856) · From Hesiod, Callimachus and Theognis (Bohn, 1856)

Living

You have not escaped-my-notice as you walked along the road, on which even aforetime you used to drive, stealing my friendship. Away with you, hateful to gods, and faithless to men, you who had in your bosom a chilly spotted snake.

This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
