The Traveller

by Tukaram 1608–1649

Translated by Nicol Macnicol (1919) · From Psalms of Maratha Saints (1919)

Religion

Let thy thought at all times be, —
Over life's tempestuous sea
We must fare.
Soon the body perisheth;
Life is swallowed up of Death.
O beware!
Seek the fellowship of saints;
Seek, until thy spirit faints,
Heaven's ways!
Let not dust make blind thine eyes,
Dust of worldly enterprise,
Tuka says.
