Luke 8:28: When Christ and purity is near

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 11 (1871)

Religion

When Christ and purity is near.
He starts appall'd with guilty fear.
As from his deadly foe;
All commerce with the Lord disclaims,
Aghast as if he saw the flames
The yawning gulf below.
