Victorian
Robert Buchanan
Robert Williams Buchanan (1841–1901) was a Scottish poet, novelist and dramatist, born at Caverswall in Staffordshire and brought up in Glasgow. His books of verse include Undertones (1863), London Poems (1866) and The Book of Orm (1870), and in 1871 he published the attack on Rossetti and his circle called 'The Fleshly School of Poetry'.
Lyra Celtica calls him the foremost Scoto-Celtic poet of his time and takes four poems from him, including 'The Dream of the World without Death' from The Book of Orm. This file also holds his 'Ballad of Judas Iscariot' and 'Phil Blood's Leap' from Popular British Ballads (1894), songs from Victorian Songs (1895), and a broad selection of his shorter poems and ballads from The Complete Poetical Works (London: Chatto & Windus, 1901).
