Heinrich von Morungen

c. 1150 – c. 1220

Heinrich von Morungen, probably from Thuringia and associated with the court of the margraves of Meissen, is regarded as the most imaginative of the minnesingers before Walther von der Vogelweide.

Eight of his songs appear here in Frank C. Nicholson’s translation, Old German Love Songs (1907), made from the minnesingers of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries.

  1. The Legacy
  2. Love's Spell
  3. Labour Lost
  4. The Triple Alliance
  5. Love's Tyranny
  6. Nay and Yea
  7. The Daybreak
  8. The Vision
