Modern
D. H. Lawrence
David Herbert Lawrence (1885–1930) was an English novelist, essayist and poet, born in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, the son of a coal miner. He wrote Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow and Women in Love, and also much poetry from his early lyrics of Nottinghamshire to the free-verse poems of his years abroad.
The poems here come from Love Poems and Others (1913), Look! We Have Come Through! (1917), New Poems (1918) and Birds, Beasts and Flowers (1923), the last of which contains his best-known animal poems. He died in Vence, France, in 1930.
