American
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882) was an American poet and Harvard professor, and by far the most popular and widely read American poet of the 19th century, both at home and in Europe.
A leading figure among the ‘Fireside Poets’, he wrote narrative epics such as ‘The Song of Hiawatha’ and ‘Paul Revere’s Ride’ alongside shorter lyrics on nature, faith, and everyday life, in verse prized for its clarity and musicality.
