Max Elskamp

1862–1931

Max Elskamp (born Antwerp, 5 May 1862; died Antwerp, 10 December 1931) was a Belgian Symbolist poet writing in French, and a member of the Académie royale de langue et de littérature françaises.

Jethro Bithell's 1911 anthology classes him as a Fleming with a French mother, notes that he illustrated his own books with quaint mediæval woodcuts, and observes that he is a free-verse poet only in his use of assonance.
