Quatrain XLVI

by Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri 973–1057

Translated by Henry Baerlein (1909) · From The Diwan of Abu'l-Ala (1909)

Religion

One who will tear these tanglements away--
No dark assassin, for the dawn of day
Leaps out, as leapeth laughter, from the knife.
