Social Commentaries
To an Epicure
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II
Social Commentaries
Thy belly is thy God, thine appetite
All thy Religion; which with tooth and nayle
Thou followest, and with an eager zeale
Dost sacrifice to Riot day and night;
Nor wilt surcease, till death his speare hath tost
In thy vast paunch, or way and weapon lost.
