Love

Lyrical Intermezzo, 21

by Heinrich Heine 1797–1856

Translated by Edgar Alfred Bowring (1908) · From Book of Songs: Lyrical Intermezzo

Love

The flutes and fiddles are sounding,
The trumpets ringing clear;
In the wedding dance is bounding
My heart’s own mistress dear.

The shawms and kettle-drums vying
In noisy chorus I hear;
But meanwhile good angels are sighing
And weeping many a tear.
