Book VIII, Epigram 31 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
'Tis not a pretty sort of confession, Dento, you make about yourself, who, after you have married a wife, ask for paternal rights. Cease at last with suppliant petitions to weary our Master, and, though late, return from the city to your own country. Otherwise, after deserting your wife at such a distance and for so long, while you are seeking three sons you will discover four!
