Nature

Majestic Night

by Sándor Petőfi 1823–1849

Translated by William N. Loew (1912) · From Selected Lyrics

Nature

Majestic night!
How brightly shine, while wandering o'er the sky.
The pale moon and the evening star on high!
Majestic night!
On meadow-grass the dew-drops brightly shine,
In forest's shade a nightingale sings fine.
Majestic night!
The youth goes forth to meet the lovelorn maid...
The robber chief goes forth to ply his trade...
Majestic night!
