Love

The Kéaou T‘ung

by Shi Jing (The Book of Songs) poems c. 1000–600 BC; compilation traditionally ascribed to Confucius

Translated by James Legge (1876) · From The She King (1876), Part I, Book VII

Love

O dear! that artful boy
Refuses me a word !
But, Sir, I shall enjoy
My food, though you’re absurd !

O dear! that artful boy
My table will not share !
But, Sir, I shall enjoy
My rest, though you’re not there!
