Dafydd ap Gwilym

c. 1315/20–c. 1350/70

Dafydd ap Gwilym was a Welsh poet of the fourteenth century, a contemporary of Chaucer, and is generally counted the greatest of the medieval poets of Wales. Born in Ceredigion, he made the cywydd the leading Welsh metre and wrote lyrics of love, nature and wit.

The two poems here, "My Burial" and "The Last Cywydd", are serious pieces rendered into English verse by Alfred Perceval Graves in A Celtic Psaltery (1917).
