Dietmar von Aist

fl. c. 1150–1170

Dietmar von Aist, a nobleman from Aist in Upper Austria documented between 1139 and 1171, wrote some of the earliest German love lyrics, notably women’s songs such as the lady and the falcon.

Three of his songs appear here in Frank C. Nicholson’s translation, Old German Love Songs (1907), made from the minnesingers of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries.

  1. A Memory
  2. Lady and Falcon
  3. Parting at Morning
