Living
The Beggar's Song
Translated by John Bowring (1830) · From Poetry of the Magyars (1830)
Living
Now, hostess, now! my pretty bird,
Fill up the cup with wine;
So I, the poor Hungarian boy,
Shall chase the griefs of mine.
And blessings on thee, comrade dear!
Heaven shield thy head from woes,
From penal laws, and fiscal claws,
And Turks and Tartar foes.
