Love
Songs of Creation, 2
Translated by Edgar Alfred Bowring (1908) · From New Poems: Songs of Creation
Love
To the devil spake the Lord thus:
Copies of myself I’m taking;
After sun come constellations,
After oxen, calves I’m making.
After lions with their furious
Paws, I’m making kittens curious,
After men come monkeys clever:
Thou canst nothing make, however.
