Love

The Return Home, 21

by Heinrich Heine 1797–1856

Translated by Edgar Alfred Bowring (1908) · From Pictures of Travel: The Return Home (1823-24)

Love

Once more through the halls I pass’d
Where her troth to me was plighted;
On the spot where her tears fell fast
A serpent’s brood had alighted.
