Nature

Seher

by Ahmet Haşim c. 1885–1933

From Göl Saatleri (1921). Original Turkish text.

NatureThe Mind

Ağaçların seherî zirvesinde titreşiyor
Tuyûr-ı fâniye-i âlem-i tahayyül ü hâb.

Semâyı kaplayacak, şimdi, gâzeler gibi nûr
Zavallılar kalacaklar esîr-i ufk-ı türâb.

Ve onların gözü eyler nücûm-ı fecre itâb
Ve onların sesi eyler "nihayet"i işrâb...

The title means 'Dawn'. One of four short poems on the hours of the day printed together in the magazine Servet-i Fünûn (no. 1054, 4 August 1911) and later collected in Göl Saatleri. At dawn the frail birds of dream tremble on the treetops, about to be left captive to the earth as the light spreads.
