Caesares: Quatrains XX. — Didius Julianus
Translated by Hugh G. Evelyn-White (1919–21) · From Book XIV. — Ausonius on the Twelve Caesars
Thank heaven that Didius has no joy of the fruits of sovereignty, and that its prizes soon were snatched from that false old man! And thou, father Severus, dread not the title of usurper: your arms do not seize the empire, but receive it.
