Öğle

by Ahmet Haşim c. 1885–1933

From Göl Saatleri (1921). Original Turkish text.

Nature

Yeşil sularda büyük inciden çiçekler açar,
Gümüş böcekler okur âba bir neşîde-i hâb.
Durur sevâhilin üstünde, bî-heves, bî-tâb,
Güneş ziyâsını içmiş benât-ı hâb u serâb.

The title means 'Noon'. One of four short poems on the hours of the day printed together in the magazine Servet-i Fünûn (no. 1054, 4 August 1911) and later collected in Göl Saatleri. Pearl flowers open on green water while silver insects sing of sleep.
