The Ecclesiazusae
A comedy first produced at Athens in 393 BC
Translated by Benjamin Bickley Rogers (1924)
Praxagora, at the head of a band of Athenian women who have borrowed their husbands' cloaks and put on false beards, carries a motion in the Assembly handing the city over to the women, and then decrees that property and love shall be held in common, with riotous results for her husband Blepyrus, a stingy citizen and a young man hunted down by three old hags.
